The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue
As any major prize-giving event approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything that year
- Another creative title received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
