Person pleads guilty to sexual crimes against children at summer program
A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant played a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
